Earlier this summer, Sony closed another fiscal year of being in the red, but it’s starting the 2010/11 ledger with its quill dipped firmly in the black inkwell. For the quarter ending June 30, the Japanese megacorp clocked up

Valve not ruling out more in-house PS3 games

Valve’s Doug Lombardi sounds pleased to be able to bring the well-known developer’s games to Sony’s PlayStation 3. When speaking to PSM3, the marketing honcho mentioned the studio is prepared to fix the wrongdoings of the past, like for instance, The Orange Box… the port, that is.

“Having a dedicated PS3 team allows us to build our PS3 products internally, which we feel is critical for delivering the highest quality version of our products,” expressed Lombardi. And while he added that neither Move nor 3D would be added to any of their current franchises or games in development, he did tease about the possibility of bringing in-house games like Left 4 Dead to the PS3.

Hori’s mesmerizing PS3 Slim LCD dock now available for import

Love at first sight may be debatable, but we had a feeling we’d be into Hori’s PS3 Slim LCD dock just as soon as we laid eyes on it. A few months after first appearing overseas, the simplistic device — which mounts an 11.6-inch LCD atop your PlayStation 3 Slim console — is ready to be imported into these great States of America. Play-Asia is coming through in the clutch once more, offering the gizmo to those situated far, far from the Land of the Rising Sun for $259.90. It’s in stock and ready to ship within 24 hours, so we’d get it on it if you were planning to get on it. Just sayin’.

[Thanks, Craig]

Insomniac prepping for game announcement

Remember when Insomniac Games signed with Electronic Arts ending the studio’s Sony exclusivity? That shocker came in May with no firm details as to what the studio was working on. It’s now the end of July, and we want some answers, dammit!

Thankfully, Insomniac today revealed that it’s getting ready to announce its next game. The company tweeted the following this afternoon: “Want to know when we’re announcing our next game? Find in our new newsletter this Friday!”

So there you have it. Could be Insomniac’s first multiplatform game, or it could be the next Ratchet & Clank, or it could be Halo 4. Though we seriously doubt that last one.
