I had to explain today to my disappointed dad why he cannot change the home screen background on his iPhone 3G (owners of iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS can do it), and I wasn’t really sure why. Luckily, the answer comes from Apple’s head honcho, Steve Jobs himself. Gizmodo reader Erica wrote Steve an email asking why older version of the iPhone didn’t have this option

Rumor: Apple Event to Highlight iPhone OS 4.0 in Addition to Tablet

In addition to a tablet device, Apple is expected to introduce the next major upgrade for its iPhone operating system in a press event next week, according to reports. Fox News cites an unnamed Apple employee who claims iPhone OS 4.0 will be a major topic of the Jan. 27 press event along with the fabled Apple tablet.
